3 days of heavy rain from tomorrow

PATNA: The intensity of monsoon showers in the state slightly reduced on Thursday and Friday, but the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted fairly widespread rainfall in the state for three days from Sunday. As a result, rainfall activity is likely to increase over east India from August 19 to 22. “A low pressure area is likely to develop over north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around August 19. Sources in agriculture department said transplantation had been completed in more than 80% of the agriculture farms used for paddy cultivation in the state. The targeted paddy cultivation area in the state is 34 lakh hectares.

The all-India weather bulletin issued by IMD has also warned of heavy rain at isolated places in the state on Sunday.The daily weather bulletin issued by Patna Meteorological Department on Friday has also predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places in the state on Sunday.The expected showers have been attributed to likely formation of a low-pressure area over north Bay of Bengal. “A low pressure area is likely to develop over north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around August 19. As a result, rainfall activity is likely to increase over east India from August 19 to 22. Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy showers are expected during the period in eastern parts of the country,” a fortnightly weather bulletin issued by IMD on Thursday stated.Meanwhile, rainfall deficiency in the state has increased from 16% on August 6 to 19% on August 17. The state has received 546.6mm rainfall from June 1 to August 17 against the normal figure of 672.8mm.The late recovery in monsoon rainfall has improved paddy transplantation scenario in the state. Sources in agriculture department said transplantation had been completed in more than 80% of the agriculture farms used for paddy cultivation in the state. The targeted paddy cultivation area in the state is 34 lakh hectares.
