Bihar court orders lodging FIR against Salman Khan and six others

PATNA: A court in Muzaffarpur on Wednesday issued orders to lodge an FIR against Bollywood actor Salman Khan and six others for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus by naming their upcoming movie ' Love Ratri ' and releasing it before the auspicious festival of 'Navratri'.The complaint case was filed by an advocate Sudhir Ojha on September 6 against Salman, the movie actor and his brother-in-law Ayush Sharma, actress Warina Hussain, side actor Ram Kapoor, movie director Abhiraj Minawal and five others. Salman is the producer of the movie.Ojha, while talking to TOI over phone, said orders to lodge FIR were given on basis of a complaint case filed by him before court of Muzaffarpur c hief judicial magistrate (CJM) Arti Kumari Singh on September 6, who assigned the matter to sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM, East) Shailendra Rai for hearing.The advocate, in his complaint had alleged that the movie has been deliberately named as Love Ratri to mock the coveted festival of Nav Ratri in which Hindus worship Goddess Durga and releasing it prior to the festival.He had also alleged that movie’s advertisement is hurting the religious sentiments of Hindu and could also lead to communal violence.Ojha said that SDJM court, finding merit the case on preliminary stage, ordered for lodging an FIR in the case and investigate the matter.“They could have named the movie anything else other than Love Ratri,” he said.The complaint case was filed under Sections 120B (Criminal conspiracy), 153A (Promoting enmity between separate groups on basis of religion, race, birth place, language), 153 (provocation with intent to cause riot), 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage reli­gious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or reli­gious beliefs) and 298 (Uttering words with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings of a person) of Indian Penal Code
