PATNA: Close on the heels of the Patna high court’s directive for flushing out unauthorized occupants from hostels, Patna University (PU) authorities on Thursday swung into action and convened a meeting of the superintendents and wardens to chalk out a strategy. “The corporation officials have assured that they will get both these hostels furnished by the end of this month. “We will send a fresh reminder to the director general of police in a day or two for getting the hostel vacated. He has also directed the Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation to hand over the hostels under repair to the college or university administration after getting them furnished. We are trying to finalize the allotment of seats in all the hostels before September 27.”

PATNA: Close on the heels of the Patna high court’s directive for flushing out unauthorized occupants from hostels, Patna University (PU) authorities on Thursday swung into action and convened a meeting of the superintendents and wardens to chalk out a strategy. The court has set a deadline of September 27 for making fresh allotments to genuine boarders.PU has admitted that some of its hostels are under unauthorized occupation of outsiders and efforts made in the past for evicting them have failed.According to vice-chancellor (VC) Rash Bihari Prasad Singh, one hostel in Saidpur has been occupied by police for several years. “We will send a fresh reminder to the director general of police in a day or two for getting the hostel vacated. Some hostels, which are in a dilapidated condition, have already declared unfit for residential purposes and will not be allotted to students any more,” Singh said. The VC has instructed all the hostel superintendents to make allotments to “genuine boarders” and inform police about “illegal boarders”. He has also directed the Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation to hand over the hostels under repair to the college or university administration after getting them furnished. Two premier hostels of Patna College — Jackson and Minto — are being renovated for a long time and are yet to be furnished by the corporation.Meanwhile, at least four students of Patna College have sat on fast-unto-death in front of the principal’s office, demanding immediate allotment of seats in Jackson and Minto hostels. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad activists also staged a demonstration in this connection.PU proctor G K Palei said. “The corporation officials have assured that they will get both these hostels furnished by the end of this month. We are trying to finalize the allotment of seats in all the hostels before September 27.”
