Purnea University to start 17 new courses at degree level

However, the academic council agreed in principle to introduce CBCS courses at the degree level from the next year, he said.The council also passed the proposal to start 17 new courses in addition to the existing 22 regular courses at degree and PG levels in science, arts and commerce streams. “The university has a plan to groom entrepreneurship for which university will select about 100 students for PG diploma in entrepreneurship and skill management course.

However, the academic council agreed in principle to introduce CBCS courses at the degree level from the next year, he said.The council also passed the proposal to start 17 new courses in addition to the existing 22 regular courses at degree and PG levels in science, arts and commerce streams. “Some of the new postgraduate courses are MSc in statistics, nanotechnology, geology, microbiology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, environmental science, bio-chemistry, fisheries, horticulture and landscape, genetics, molecular biology, plant and molecular breeding, electronics, computer science, MA in anthropology , LSW and Gandhian thoughts,” the VC added.According to the VC, the academic council also passed 21 new courses in self-financing mode at the undergraduate level. These courses include food science, physical education, journalism, performing arts, renewal energy, processing and food engineering, biology and sports medicine, astrology, yoga and meditation, hotel management and entrepreneurship management. The VC said these new courses would start after getting the state government’s nod.Besides, the academic council approved the proposal to conduct PhD admission test from the next academic session to maintain transparency in the admission process. “The university will start altogether 110 separate departments,” Singh said.The VC said the university would introduce altogether 206 new courses in the next five years to promote skill development. “The university has a plan to groom entrepreneurship for which university will select about 100 students for PG diploma in entrepreneurship and skill management course. We will try to tie up with the California University for placement of these students,” he said.The academic council also approved the proposal to start sports college to groom talented and upcoming sports persons of the state. Construction of all-weather stadium, swimming pool, astro turf field for hockey and other amenities are also in the pipeline.University registrar Col Pramod Kumar, dean (students’ welfare) P K Jha, dean of science faculty C K Yadav, dean of humanities G K Jha, dean of commerce A K Singh and others attended the meeting.
