ED to attach assets of liquor smugglers

SAHARSA: Saharsa police have initiated a move to attach properties of liquor smugglers.Saharsa SP Rakesh Kumar said, “The enforcement directorate (ED) has been approached to execute government orders for attachment of properties. Besides these, 12 more illicit liquor traders are on police radar . “Saharsa has bagged the first position in Bihar by ensuring strict punishment to 20 accused followed by Munger district with 16 getting strict punishment,” the SP added. Altogether 940 people have been arrested on various charges under sections of new Excise and Prohibition Act.Expressing satisfaction over the promptness of the Saharsa police, the SP said during a recent review meeting chaired by the CM through video conferencing with DMs and SPs in the state, Saharsa had won laurels by achieving the first position in awarding strict punishments under the new excise act. The ED is likely to start execution within a week.”According to the SP, property worth RS 53 lakh of Ekramul of Refugee Chowk under Saharsa police station, Rs 55lakh assets of Ashok Yadav of Dighiya village under Saharsa police station and Rs 60lakh assets of Ramanand Yadav of Chiraiya village under same police outpost are to be attached.“Punitive action against Ekramul and Ashok Yadav has been sanctioned by the government, whereas sanction of the same against Ramanand Yadav is expected within a day or two,” said the SP.The SP wondered as to how these liquor traders had piled up huge property during the last two years.
