Maoists kill SSB man on leave in Jamui district

They said the rebels shouted slogans calling Sikandar a “police informer” and announcing that they were “punishing” him for that. Soon after they killed him, they fled into a nearby jungle.Sikander’s house at Pandethika village is about 5 km away from Barahat police station.

PATNA: Maoists shot dead a Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel who had come home on leave for nine days in Jamui district on Monday evening.Police identified the dead as Sikander Yadav from the SSB’s 48th battalion based at Jankinagar in Madhubani district . On Tuesday, SHO (Barahat PS) Sunil Kumar said, “Sikander was killed while he and his family were elebrating his daughter’s fourth birthday.”Before Sikander was killed, two Maoists, in police uniform, came to his house looking for him. As soon as he came out, about 20 other rebels pounced on him and dragged him away at gun-point. “Sikander was shot many times just a few feet away from his house,” Kumar said.Villagers claimed that there were some women among the Maoists. They said the rebels shouted slogans calling Sikandar a “police informer” and announcing that they were “punishing” him for that. Soon after they killed him, they fled into a nearby jungle.Sikander’s house at Pandethika village is about 5 km away from Barahat police station. His body was sent to Jamui hospital for postmortem and was later handed over to his family.In the past too, Maoists had killed people accusing them of being police informers. On September 2, they killed Basanti Devi (30), by sliting her throat at Lakhisarai . Police said Basanti’s husband, who was a Maoist earlier, is currently serving a jail term. They added that like Sikander, Basanti was also dragged out of her house and killed.
