Finishing touches are being given to the interiors as of now,” said a senior engineer in the building construction department. The work on Bihar Police Bhavan had started on September 29, 2014 and it was initially targeted to be completed in 24 months. Apart from different wings of state police, the home department and few wings of disaster management department will also shift here. The main building has seven floors and a basement. It has been constructed with ‘base isolation technology’ to make it earthquake-resistant. The building can survive earthquake of magnitude up to 9 on the Richter scale.According to a building construction department engineer, Bihar Police Bhavan is the first building in Bihar and sixth in the country that has been constructed with base isolation technology, which utilizes lead rubber bearings to isolate the base with the main structure. “This prevents the energy released during the quakes to go directly up to the main structure and cause major damage,” he said.Another significant component of the Police Bhavan will be an emergency control centre in wing 3 of the campus. The engineer said the emergency control centre would be crucial in case of any disaster or other emergency. The campus will also have a dormitory, a transit hostel, a convention hall, an auditorium with seating capacity for 475 people and a badminton court. Provision for a rooftop helipad has also been made. “The building has an ultramodern forensic science laboratory. It has been designed on zero waste water technology as all waste water will be recycled. The building has been designed to function without any disruption using backup for 12 days, including solar power backup. The entire building will function on information technology-based building management system,” the engineer said.
