GAYA: The delay in the apportionment of non-teaching employees between Magadh University, the parent university and its recent off shoot Pataliputra University ( PPU ) has badly affected. The Pataliputra University is now about six months old as it was notified on March 19, this year.“Whereas, about 500 ministerial employees of the university headquarters and allied units have very little to do as more than half of the undivided Magadh University is now gone, Pataliputra University, in the absence of office staff remains a misnomer, says one of the principals of a Patna-based college, a constituent unit.A few weeks back, MU sought option from its headquarter employees to choose between the parent university and its off shoot. As per records, only 47 of the nearly 500 non-teaching employees of the MU headquarters exercised their preference in favour of Pataliputra University. Others simply preferred to stay put at their old work place. As per the apportionment formula, 55% of MU non-teaching staff has to be relocated to the new university. Going by the numbers, about 275 employees have to be transferred. The number of those who volunteered to serve Pataliputra University is only 47. The remaining employees numbering more than 200 have to be forced out under some structured formula as per the pecking order of the workers.Of the 44 constituent and four government-funded colleges under undivided MU, 25 constituents and three government-funded minority colleges including the two Biharsharif-based colleges have gone to Pataliputra University. The truncated MU is left with less than half of its original strength, just 19 constituents and one government funded minority college.Asked about the status of apportionment, Nalin Shastri, a senior functionary of the university administration associated with the university bifurcation exercise said he was out of the headquarters and as such not updated on that count. On more than one occasion, MU VC Prof Qamar Ahsan has said the final call in the matter of work force division between Magadh and Pataliputra Universities has to be taken by the state government.PPU VC Prof Gulab Chand Jaiswal did not respond to calls made to his number.
