Tazia processions mark Muharram

On seventh day of Muharram, we place strings of flowers on the tazia and put some soil under it. PATNA: The tenth day of the Islamic month of Muharram was observed on Friday amid mourning and chest beating by Shia Muslims. The administration had banned DJ and asked the organizers to seek licences from the DSPs of their areas for taking out Muharram processions.Various programmes were organized across the city to mark the occasion. A 100-year-old tazia with a replica of Duldul was put up at Langartoli Imambada.

PATNA: The tenth day of the Islamic month of Muharram was observed on Friday amid mourning and chest beating by Shia Muslims. They recalled the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, and his band of 72 family members and followers by the army of Yezid at Karbala in Iraq 1338 years ago.Tazias were taken out from various localities with men beating their chests and chanting ‘YA Ali, Ya Hussain’. The government had taken several steps to ensure a peaceful event. The administration had banned DJ and asked the organizers to seek licences from the DSPs of their areas for taking out Muharram processions.Various programmes were organized across the city to mark the occasion. A 100-year-old tazia with a replica of Duldul was put up at Langartoli Imambada. Mohammad Imtiyaz Quraishi, head of the imambada said, “Every year, the tazia is cleaned and painted before Muharram. The procession is carried to a dargah near Pathar Ki Masjid.”Muharram processions were taken out from different localities on Friday evening and marched towards the dargah for burial of tazias. Before that, condolence sessions were held at various Imam Baras in Patna City where participants chanted elegies and speakers highlighted the martyrdom of Imam Hussain who fought a battle against the army of Yezid. It was also known as the between truth and falsehood.
