PATNA: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Monday reiterated that he would never compromise on the issues of crime, corruption and communalism , irrespective of his partner in government.Speaking at a function to announce three new schemes for Muslims and minorities in the state, Nitish said, “You see my track record since 2005. I never compromised with crime, corruption and communalism. And be sure, I cannot compromise on these issues even in future. It is irrelevant with whom I am (in the government).”Trying to convince Muslims about his commitment towards secularism, Nitish also said, “Many people came with me in the successive governments. But no government work was affected. I never compromised on the three issues. It is my responsibility to lead and run the government.”Nitish, who is also the JD(U) national president, further said he never worried for votes. “I believe in service of people and always remain concerned about that. Whatever reputation I have earned is purely based on my ‘kaam’ (works) and not ‘caste’. Despite all these, if you people want to go anywhere, you can go. I don’t worry for votes,” Nitish said and added, “Wherever you want to give your political (decision), you are free.”The CM was obviously referring to a perception that Muslims drifted away from him after he walked out of the Grand Alliance with Lalu Prasad’s RJD and Congress and joined hands with the BJP again to form a new government last year.Nitish said ever since he came to power in 2005, he had tirelessly been working for the welfare and progress of the poor among minorities. “Majority of the minorities are very poor and yet to come into the mainstream of society. My government’s priority is to bring them to the mainstream by taking necessary corrective measures,” he said.Recounting the schemes launched by the state government, Nitish called upon the minorities to take advantage of such schemes. “If you have any new idea that something more should be done for the minorities, tell us. We will bring more schemes for you,” Nitish said.Referring to a news item published in an Urdu daily about non-appointment of assistant professors in Urdu and Arabic subjects in different state universities, the CM said he inquired from the officers concerned. He said a requisition for appointment of 102 assistant professors in Urdu and six in Arabic subjects had already been sent to Bihar Public Service Commission and these appointments would be made soon.
