Bihar Cong distances itself from Alpesh Thakore

PATNA: Bihar Congress has distanced itself from the party’s Gujarat MLA and Kshatriya Thakor Sena chief Alpesh Thakore apparently due to his controversial video in which he spoke against the migrant workers from north India and his organisation’s alleged role in inciting violence against the Hindi-speaking people A prominent OBC leader in Gujarat, Thakore is also the All India Congress Committee’s secretary in-charge for Bihar. Though the main function is being organised by Singh, the Bihar Congress has tacitly asked its different district committees, especially those where Bhumihars have significant presence, to mobilise the party workers for the SK memorial event. “Gohil has accepted our invitation and he will attend the event along with other senior leaders of the Grand Alliance including RJD’s Tejashwi Prasad Yadav,” Singh, who was union minister in UPA-1 in between 2004-09, told reporters at the Bihar Congress headquarters Sadaqat Ashram here.Asked about Thakore, Singh said, “He will not attend the event. Despite being his party’s incharge for Bihar, Thakore has not been invited to attend the birth anniversary function of Bihar’s first CM and Congress leader Shri Krishna Sinha popularly known as Shri Babu.Bihar Congress Campaign Committee chairman and Rajya Sabha member Akhilesh Prasad Singh, who every year organises a grand programme to celebrate the birth anniversary of Shri Babu in the state capital here, on Wednesday said he has not sent invitation to Thakore for participating in this year’s Shri Babu birth anniversary function to be held at S K Memorial hall on October 21.Incidentally, the AICC incharge for Bihar Shaktisinh Gohil too hails from Gujarat. We have neither sent him an invitation nor approached him for attending the event.” Asked about the reason behind not inviting Thakore, Singh said media people were free to make interpretation.Accompanied by Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Madan Mohan Jha, Singh also said all Congress leaders and workers would attend the S K Memorial event after attending a similar anniversary programme at the Sadaqat Ashram.Sources said, Congress this year want to celebrate Shri Babu’s birth anniversary at a grand level with an aim to mobilise Bhumihar votes towards the party before the 2019 general elections.
