PATNA: Rashtriya Lok Samata Party ( RLSP ) president Upendra Kushwaha’s unrelenting offensive against CM Nitish Kumar has left the state BJP brass confused. A few BJP leaders apprehend the damage that the BJP-led NDA might suffer during the 2019 elections. Former Union minister Dr C P Thakur said Kushwaha’s exit from the NDA would harm the BJP and the other alliance partners.Echoing a similar sentiment, Union minister of state for health and family welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey on Wednesday hoped Kushwaha would remain with the NDA. “It is a natural, not the chemically produced, adhesive that keeps him in the NDA,” he said. However, Kushwaha appeared to be unrelenting and, on Wednesday, visited the family of Amit Bhushan Verma, the RLSP functionary from Mera village in Paliganj block of Patna district, who was shot dead by unidentified criminals. With Verma, three RLSP functionaries and over two dozens of party’s supporters have fallen to the bullets from criminals in the last few months, claimed state RLSP functionary Anil Yadav.“The killing of Verma has once again exposed CM Nitish Kumar’s ‘sushashan’ (good governance) claim in the state,” Kushwaha said at Mera. From early this month, Kushwaha has sharpened his attack on Nitish after the latter, on November 4, told a TV anchor not to degrade the discussion by taking it to “niche astar” (lower level) after the CM was asked to answer on the claims made publicly by Kushwaha that he was no more interesting in continuing as the chief minister of Bihar Kushwaha immediately gave a spin on it saying Nitish had, in fact, not only called him a ‘neech’ (lowly person), but also insulted the Kushwaha caste people. He also sought from Nitish an “explanation in public domain”, but not necessarily an apology. Kushwaha added that if Nitish did not respond, BJP national president Amit Shah should mediate and resolve the matter. After Kushwaha failed to meet Shah in Delhi once again on Monday, he called on former Union minister Sharad Yadav, giving clear indication that he was inching towards the RJD-led mahagathbandhan. The same day, deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi tweeted, “Nitish Kumar never used the word ‘neech’ against any leader in his interaction with the media. I was present at the programme. Still some people are trying to become martyr, but will not succeed.”The use of the word “martyr” for Kushwaha irked the RLSP. Its general secretary Madhav Anand took the ball in the court of both the BJP and Nitish. Anand reminded Nitish that he, during the 2015 Bihar assembly elections, had given a spin to the word “wrong DNA” used by PM Narendra Modi for his political style, saying not only he himself but also the people of Bihar had been insulted by PM Modi. Anand also said PM Modi had given a similar turn to the use of the phrase “neech rajniti” used by Priyanka Gandhi, daughter of the then Congress president Sonia Gandhi, during the 2014 parliamentary elections.
