After arrest order, JD(U) suspends Manju Verma

PATNA: The JD (U) has suspended former social welfare minister Manju Verma from the party following an arrest warrant issued against her by a Begusarai court in an Arms Act violation case.JD (U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said the former minister has been suspended from the party with effect from November 10 upon the orders of party’s Bihar unit president Bashishth Narayan Singh. “The move has been taken in the light of charges against her under Arms Act,” Kumar added.The arrest warrant was issued against Manju by additional chief judicial magistrate at Manjhaul sub-divisional court in Begusarai on October 31 following recovery of illegal ammunition from her husband Chandrashekhar Verma’s paternal house at Sripur village under the Cheria Bariyarpur police station area in Begusarai district on August 17. Chandrashekhar, who was also accused of having links with Muzaffarpur children home rape case key accused Brajesh Thakur, had surrendered before the Manjhaul sub-divisional court on October 29.Manju had resigned on August 8 more than a month after Shiba Kumari Singh, wife of incarcerated child protection officer of Muzaffarpur children home Ravi Kumar Raushan, alleged that her husband Chandrashekhar used to visit the shelter home often.Earlier, the JD (U) had suspended Rajeev Rawat, general secretary of youth wing of the party, in August this year following reports of his links with Brajesh Thakur.
