January target for installation of LED streetlights in Patna

PATNA: If everything goes according to plan, work on installing 70,000 LED streetlights in city would be completed by January next year.The central government-owned Energy Efficiency and Services Limited (EESL) is working on a project to install seven lakh LED streetlights in various cities of the state. However, the target was revised to seven lakh. LED lights not only consume less power in comparison to traditional sodium vapour streetlights, but also ensure better visibility on roads,” Anand added.Sources said the EESL would bear the entire cost of Rs 478 crore in installing the LED streetlights. Around 1.6 lakh LED streetlights have already been installed in the state and the remaining 5.4 lakh will be installed by March next year, one year before completion of the deadline.”Deputy municipal commissioner of Patna Municipal Corporation Vishal Anand said work on installing LED streetlights was on in 75 wards in the city.

Altogether 141 urban local bodies in the state will be covered under the project.“Of 74,000 proposed streetlights in Patna , 50,000 have already been installed. The remaining work will be completed by January next year,” said EESL additional general manager Prabhat Kumar.He added, “We were initially given the task of installing three lakh LED streetlights in urban areas of the state. However, the target was revised to seven lakh. Around 1.6 lakh LED streetlights have already been installed in the state and the remaining 5.4 lakh will be installed by March next year, one year before completion of the deadline.”Deputy municipal commissioner of Patna Municipal Corporation Vishal Anand said work on installing LED streetlights was on in 75 wards in the city. “In the first phase, LED lights are installed at such places where electric poles are available. LED lights not only consume less power in comparison to traditional sodium vapour streetlights, but also ensure better visibility on roads,” Anand added.Sources said the EESL would bear the entire cost of Rs 478 crore in installing the LED streetlights. However, the urban local bodies, such as nagar nigams, nagar parishads and nagar panchayats will have to pay the amount spent by EESL in seven years. The EESL will bear the maintenance cost of LED streetlights for seven years.
