Raids on to nab ex-minister Manju Verma

PATNA: Despite Supreme Court issuing strong reprimands and summoning Bihar DGP and chief secretary to appear before it in person on November 27, police have so far failed to arrest former social welfare minister Kumari Manju Verma in connection with recovery of illegal ammunition from her husband Chandrashekhar Verma’s residence in Begusarai on August 17.The former JD (U) minister and her husband are accused of possessing 50 illegal ammunitions, including 25 prohibited bores.The ammunitions were seized by a CBI team from the couple’s residence at Sripur village under the Cheria Bariyarpur police station area in Begusarai district during a raid in connection Muzaffarpur children home rape case.Sources said raids were carried out at different locations in Bihar and Jharkhand on Thursday to arrest the former minister, but to no avail. The SP had also claimed that the former minister’s used to visit her Sirpur house occasionally only for one or two hours.However, new Begusarai SP Awakash Kumar, who assumed charge on October 4 this year, reviewed the case following Supreme Court’s strong reprimands and found allegations against the former minister prima facie true in the last week of October.Manju’s husband Chandrashekhar had surrendered before a Begusarai court on October 29. However, he was allegedly provided the “privilege” of going to jail in a private vehicle.
