Chinese man caught flying drone in Gaya

GAYA: A Chinese national , dodging custom officials and other agencies has managed to sneak into Bodh Gaya with a light weight drone. Cops, on their part, are learnt to have sought personal details of all Chinese visiting Bodh Gaya in the recent past. The Chinese told the cops that he intended to leave Bodh Gaya on November 19. The incident has sent security agencies into tizzy.The man was first seen using the drone for aerial videography on November 13 evening at Bodh Gaya. The concern emanates from the apparent lapse that allowed the Chinese to smuggle the item without being noticed.As per available information, the Chinese national arrived at Gaya International Airport on November 5.

The incident has sent security agencies into tizzy.The man was first seen using the drone for aerial videography on November 13 evening at Bodh Gaya. He was subsequently detained and questioned. The concern emanates from the apparent lapse that allowed the Chinese to smuggle the item without being noticed.As per available information, the Chinese national arrived at Gaya International Airport on November 5. He, along with a woman friend checked in a hotel on November 11. There is some ambiguity about his place of stay between November 5 and 11. Sources said on November 5, the Chinese checked into a guest house and on November 11, he shifted to the hotel. He is learnt to have told the cops that on account of mosquito menace he left the guest house and checked in the hotel.The drone has been seized by the police. The man along with his woman friend was extensively questioned by the police as well as different intelligence agencies. Sources claimed that the Chinese national told the interrogators that he was not aware of the laws regulating the use of drones in the country and restrictions imposed by the government for security reasons.According to an official familiar with the legal aspects of the matter, each drone has got a unique identification number. Before using the drone, the owner has to submit the UID and get it registered with the directorate general of civil aviation. Prior permission from specially designated officers is required for the purpose.Confirming the seizure of the drone, officiating SSP Anil Kumar said different agencies are looking into the matter. Refusing to divulge details, he said the matter was sensitive and as such needs in-depth probe.Sources claimed that form C, a mandatory requirement for foreign visitors giving details like date and purpose of visit, place of stay, duration of likely stay, arrival details and intended departure was found in order. The Chinese told the cops that he intended to leave Bodh Gaya on November 19. The equipment's memory card did not show anything incriminating. However, in view of the sensitive nature of the matter, nothing is being left to chance. Cops, on their part, are learnt to have sought personal details of all Chinese visiting Bodh Gaya in the recent past.
