Some JD (U) functionaries had also complained to the CM about the BDOs seeking bribe under the scheme.At the BVM meeting, the CM asked the officials to implement the water supply scheme under mission mode to achieve the target of supplying piped water to all households within the stipulated period. The Mission was formed in January 2016 for proper implementation and monitoring of the schemes under the ‘Saat Nischay’ programme.“It has been decided to end the role of BDOs in implementation of the piped water scheme so that works could be saved from unnecessary delays,” a communique from the IPRD said.The CM told the officials that the scheme would now be implemented by the ward committees of gram panchayats and the public health engineering department. PATNA: Henceforth, block development officers (BDOs) will have no role in implementation of the ‘Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal Yojna’, one of the major components of CM Nitish Kumar’s ‘saat nischay’ programme.Stung by a series of complaints that the BDOs are creating hurdles in smooth implementation of the scheme by demanding commission and delaying the clearing process, the state government on Friday decided to end the role of the BDOs in implementation of the scheme.The decision was taken during review of the scheme by CM Nitish Kumar at the fifth governing body meeting of the Bihar Vikas Mission (BVM) held at ‘Samvad’ auditorium here. He asked the officials concerned to give attention to ensuring the quality of pipes being used under the scheme.In August this year, sleuths of Vigilance Investigation Bureau had arrested the BDO of Rampur (Bhabua) Varsha Tarvey while she was allegedly accepting Rs 1.15 lakh from a mukhiya for clearing bills relating to the water supply scheme.Earlier in January this year, a group of panchayat ward members in Muzaffarpur district had submitted a memorandum to the CM alleging that Saraiya BDO had been demanding a commission of 41% for clearing bills under the scheme.
