PATNA/BEGUSARAI: The state vigilance investigation bureau on Saturday arrested Begusarai ADM Om Prakash Prasad and Danapur Nagar Parishad’s head assistant Uma Shankar Prasad while they were allegedly accepting bribe While the 56-year-old ADM was arrested accepting Rs 6 lakh as bribe from advocate Ram Pramod Singh at his official residence at Begusarai, the 58-year-old head assistant was nabbed accepting Rs 1.67 lakh from contractor Vidyanandan Singh near a Bharat Petroleum outlet on Gola Road in Patna.A tout, Ramashankar Bharti, was also arrested along with the head assistant. In addition to the bribe money, cash to the tune of Rs 32 lakh was seized from the residences and offices of the ADM and head assistant.Vigilance sources said a sum of Rs 5.6 lakh was seized from the ADM’s official residence at Begusarai and another Rs 3.51 lakh from his private residence near Jalalpur City at Rupaspur in Patna.Cash to the tune of Rs 22.9 lakh was found from an almirah in the head assistant’s office at Danapur.

When the advocate met him, he demanded bribe,” a vigilance official said and added the deal was struck for Rs 11 lakh which was to be paid in two instalments.In the meantime, the advocate lodged a complaint with the vigilance bureau on November 8 and a trap was laid after the accusation was found true in preliminary investigations.The sources said the Danapur civic body head assistant had demanded bribe from the contractor to clear his payment for construction of a road and drain at Ram Jaipal Nagar.“It was a Rs 1.48-crore contract and 95% of the amount had been paid. For the payment of the remaining 5%, the head assistant had demanded Rs 3.5 lakh,” the vigilance official said.
