HC lawyers to press for Advocatesrsquo Protection Act

The high court has advocates’ association, barrister association and bar association.The coordination committee also decided not abstain from work on Thursday as police was working proactively in the Jitendra murder case. Advocates had abstained from routine legals works on Wednesday after Jitendra’s killing.It was also decided that delegation would urge governor and CM for providing compensation of Rs 50 lakh to family members of Jitendra, completion of investigation in stipulated time and others.A group of advocates of Patna civil court also staged a protest at the Kargil Chowk on Thursday demanding that the state government now must form the special Act from protection of advocates. PATNA: A delegation of advocates from Patna high court would soon try to meet the governor Lalji Tandon and CM Nitish Kumar to hand them over a memorandum with some demands which they had put forward after their colleague Jitendra Kumar’s killing on Wednesday.The prime demand of the memorandum would be to urge the government for bringing out Advocates’ Protection Act same as like Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh government.The Act, once enforced, would give especial privileges to advocate discharge their duties in a fearless environment and those harassing or threatening advocate would attract additional penalties.This was decided in a meeting of coordination committee of the all three associations of the Patna high court on Thursday.
