Railway electrification work is going on in full swing on the Chopan-Chunar, Bettiah-Valmikinagar, Koderma-Rema, Hazaribagh-Sidwar, Chopan-Singrauli and Ara-Sasaram routes, sources said, adding electrification work on the 97km-long Ara-Sasaram route would be completed by December end at a cost of Rs91.29 crore. PATNA: The railways is to run passenger trains with electric locomotive on six different sections under East Central Railway (ECR) as the 215km-long railway electrification (RE) work has been completed. Commissioner of railway safety (CRS), eastern zone, has already approved the proposal.According to ECR chief public relations officer (CPRO) Rajesh Kumar, railways had commissioned the 50km-long electrified Warisaliganj-Kiul route on July 25 this year while electrification work on the Bapudham Motihari-Bettiah (42km) and Jeevdhara-Bapudham (9km) route was also completed in September this year, he said.ECR completed the electrification work on the Koderma-Hazaribagh Town (40km), Fatuha-Islampur (44km) and Sugauli- Raxaul (30km) in a record time. The CRS found the tracks fit to run electric passenger trains during inspection held on December 8, 9 and 10, he said.The CPRO said railways would now run New Delhi-Islampur Magadh Express up to Islampur by electric locomotive. A diesel locomotive used to haul Magadh Express either from Patna Junction or Fatuha up to Islampur due to non-electrification of Fatuha-Islampur route, he said, adding railways would run more MEMU trains on these routes.According to sources, the Railway Board has directed the ECR to complete all pending RE works by March 2019 so that railways could introduce more mail and express trains on these routes.
