Patna Science College student commits suicide

PATNA: A third-year physics (Honours) student of Patna Science College committed suicide in his Cavendish hostel room around 3pm on Wednesday. “The body was sent to Patna Medical College and Hospital for postmortem and his father Shambhu Jha was informed about the incident,” Sarwar said. The deceased, Nand Kumar Gupta (20), was a native of Phulwarisharif in the city.“No suicide note was found from his hotel room,” Pirbahore police station SHO Gulam Sarwar said. Hostel superintendent LN Rai told this newspaper that the room was locked from inside. He didn’t even turn up for his classes on Wednesday,” said a student.

Police were yet to record the statements of his family members.Nand had been living in a single room at the college hostel since August last year.The incident came to light when his cousin came to the hostel to meet him. Hostel superintendent LN Rai told this newspaper that the room was locked from inside. “Police were called after Nand did not respond to repetitive calls from his cousin. When police opened the gate, his body was found hanging from the ceiling fan,” he said.Rai recalled that the boy was depressed for sometimes and mostly kept himself confined to his room. “He had also joined a meditation centre only a few weeks ago,” he said.One of his friends, preferring anonymity, told this newspaper that Nand didn’t want to live in the hostel, but his father was adamant on his stay there. “He was homesick and depressed. He didn’t even turn up for his classes on Wednesday,” said a student.
