PATNA: Acting on a Centre’s advisory, the state home department on Thursday asked all district magistrates and superintendents of police to take stern action against those found guilty of indulging in celebratory firing and brandishing firearms.The Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) had recently issued an advisory to all states, asking them to take action against people who indulge in celebratory firing during weddings and at religious places, processions and political rallies.ADG (headquarters) Kundan Krishnan said police would initiate measures for implementation of the MHA’s advisory. The youth was standing near his house to see the procession when a stray bullet hit him.While the MHA has issued the latest advisory on the basis of a Delhi high court order passed on August 13, 2017, it had instructed the state governments in 2016 also to ask law enforcing agencies, including police, to take action against those indulging in celebratory firing and brandishing firearms.The states, including Bihar, have also been asked to cancel arms licences of those found guilty of violating the norms.
