Election process begins, 1 files papers on Day 1

PATNA/AURANGABAD/GAYA: Former MLA Som Prakash was the only candidate to file his nomination papers on the first day of the first phase election to be held in 7 phases in Bihar from April 11. A former inspector of police, Som was elected from Obra assembly constituency in 2010. He had hogged the limelight a couple of years ago when he raised the issue of corruption prevalent in the government offices. 86 lakh has been realized as fine from the vehicle owners for violation of Motor Vehicles Act.

PATNA/AURANGABAD/GAYA: Former MLA Som Prakash was the only candidate to file his nomination papers on the first day of the first phase election to be held in 7 phases in Bihar from April 11. Som filed his papers as a Swaraj Party nominee from Aurangabad, which along with Gaya, Jamui and Nawada will go to the polls in the first phase.Som will be treated as an independent candidate as his party is not registered with the Election Commission of India. A former inspector of police, Som was elected from Obra assembly constituency in 2010. He had hogged the limelight a couple of years ago when he raised the issue of corruption prevalent in the government offices. He had shot into fame after donning the role of a police officer in a Bhojpuri film.Aurangabad DM Rahul Ranjan Mahiwal said over 200 police personnel and members of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed on the collectorate premises to avert any untoward incident.Earlier, the police stopped the Som supporters when they tried to enter the collectorate premises.Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituency has 17,37,821 voters and 1964 polling booths, the DM, who is also the district returning officer, said.Meanwhile, additional chief electoral officer (ACEO) Sanjay Kumar Singh said preventive action was initiated against 10,792 people under section 107 of CrPC on Monday. Besides, 853 non-bailable warrants were executed and 19,740 litres of illicit liquor were seized.The police also seized 21 illegal arms, 108 live cartridges and one live bomb during the operation. In addition, eight arms licenses were cancelled. A sum of Rs83. 86 lakh has been realized as fine from the vehicle owners for violation of Motor Vehicles Act. Gaya DM-cum-district electoral officer Abhishekh Singh issued a formal notification in the morning with details of the election process.Polling will end two hours before the closing time in Sherghati, Barachatti and Bodh Gaya among the six assembly segments of the Gaya parliamentary constituency.
