3-day Bihar Diwas celebrations begin

The celebration marks the day when the British carved out the state from the Bengal presidency on March 22, 1912.On the first day, a series of cultural events enthralled the audience. Bollywood playback singer Richa Sharma captivated the audience with her performances on songs like ‘Mahi ve’ and ‘Zindagi me kabhi koi’.Political leaders, actors and other eminent personalities from across the country extended their greetings on Bihar Diwas.Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people of Bihar on the occasion. “My greetings to residents of Bihar, the land of brave people and great personalities. Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi also extended wishes to people of the state by citing the contributions of Lord Mahavir, tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh, Chanakya, Aryabhatta and Gautam Buddha.RJD leader and former deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav also tweeted, “Greetings to all the Biharis across the world on the foundation day of the state. By maintaining mutual love, trust, brotherhood, social harmony and religious goodwill, we will all continue to contribute to progress, development and prosperity of Bihar. Let us take forward the pride of Bihar (sic).”Body donation: Member of Bihar Chamber of Commerce Utpal Kant Sen donated his wife’s body to Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Science (IGIMS), Patna on the occasion of Bihar Diwas. Utpal’s wife Shipra Sen had died at a private hospital in Patna on March 21.IGIMS medical superintendent Dr Manish Mandal said only the eyes of the dead woman could be used due to delay in getting body donation. “The donated eyes will give sight to four patients. Shipra’s whole body was donated to department of anatomy for the medical education of students,” he said.
