PATNA: DIG (central range) Rajesh Kumar has sought an explanation from City SP (central) for granting bail to officer-on-duty of Kadamkuan police station on Thursday midnight even after he was found drunk on the police station premises.Kumar on Saturday said he had directed SSP Garima Malik to seek explanation from Prantosh Kumar Das within six days that how the tainted officer, Krishna Rai, was granted bail from the police station itself.A video showed Rai, a sub-inspector rank officer, sleeping on a bench inside the police station around midnight on Thursday. When the officer woke up, he had allegedly hurled abuses on the person who recorded his state during duty hours.Das, who was informed by that person, had directed Town DSP and Pirbahore police station SHO to rush there and verify the incident. Later, he also reached the police station and conducted breathalyser test on Rai. The test conformed that he had consumed liquor.According to Das, Rai’s blood and urine samples were preserved at Patna Medical College and Hospital. Later, he secured bail from the police station as he was booked under bailable sections of Bihar Prohibition and Excise (Amendment) Act, 2018.“Yes, the sections under which Rai was booked were bailable, but he should have been produced before a magistrate, who should have taken a call to grant him bail or to forward him to jail. It sends a wrong message to society,” the DIG said, adding departmental proceedings had also been initiated against the SI.Fire at service centre: A fire broke out inside a two-wheeler service centre behind LIC building on Exhibition Road under the Gandhi Maidan police station area in the city on Saturday.
