1st phase of LS polls: 60 candidates file papers

Chandan Kumar of LJP and Vibha Devi of RJD filed their nomination papers for Nawada seat.Authoritative sources said 60 nomination papers were filed in Nawada, Gaya, Aurangabad and Jamui. PATNA: As many as 60 candidates, including Hindustani Awam Morcha (S) chief and former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, filed their nomination papers from the four Lok Sabha constituencies going to the polls in the first phase on April 11. He also filed his nomination today.In addition, 24 nomination papers were filed from the five other constituencies going to the polls in the second phase on April 18. Monday was the last day for filing of nomination papers for the first phase.Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan’s son Chirag Paswan also filed his nomination papers for the Jamui seat. Gaya is the home district of Manjhi.Sushil Kumar Singh of BJP filed his nomination papers for Aurangabad seat.

Chirag had won the seat in 2014. Bhudev Choudhary of RLSP also filed his papers for Jamui seat.Manjhi, whose HAM(S) is a part of the Grand Alliance comprising RJD, Congress, RLSP and VIP, filed his papers for the Gaya (reserved) constituency. Manjhi was accompanied by several leaders, including former minister and RJD MLA Surendra Yadav and Congress leader Awadhesh Singh. Gaya is the home district of Manjhi.Sushil Kumar Singh of BJP filed his nomination papers for Aurangabad seat. Sushil had won the seat in 2009 and 2014. He is pitted against Upendra Prasad of HAM(S). Chandan Kumar of LJP and Vibha Devi of RJD filed their nomination papers for Nawada seat.Authoritative sources said 60 nomination papers were filed in Nawada, Gaya, Aurangabad and Jamui. Sixteen papers were filed from Aurangabad, 14 from Gaya (SC), 18 from Nawada and 12 in Jamui.Gaya is among the five sitting seats the BJP has given to its allies. Vijay Manjhi of JD(U) is the NDA candidate from Gaya. He also filed his nomination today.In addition, 24 nomination papers were filed from the five other constituencies going to the polls in the second phase on April 18. Among them were Jay Prakash Narayan Yadav of RJD, former MP Putul Kumari (independent) and Giridhari Yadav of JD(U) from Banka.As per the Grand Alliance’s seat-sharing formula announced on March 22, RJD will contest 20 of the 40 Lok Sabha seats, leaving nine for Congress, five for RSLP and three each for HAM(S) and VIP. In NDA, BJP and JD(U) will contest 17 seats each while LJP has been given the remaining six to contest.
