The work of the ambitious Patna Metro Rail Project is progressing fast. It is likely to pick up pace by next month as Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) has been entrusted with the construction of two tunnels and six underground stations.

The company will construct underground ramps at Rajendra Nagar and six underground stations from Rajendra Nagar to Akashvani. It is a part of Corridor-II.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC), appointed as the General Consultant for Patna Metro Project, said that L&T made the lowest bid in the financial bid for Corridor II.

This corridor is 14.5 km long from Patna Junction to the new ISBT. Four companies had participated in the financial bid during this period.

The 7.9 km long underground portion will have stations with entry/exit and connecting subways at Rajendra Nagar, Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, Patna University, PMCH, Gandhi Maidan and All India Radio. This includes architectural, water supply, sanitation and drainage works.

The L&T firm will design and build twin tunnels, underground ramps and stations using about Rs 1,958 crore in 42 months. An official of the state`s urban development and housing department said the underground ramp will form a link between Rajendra Nagar and Malahi Pakri stations.

This ramp will take the Metro from the underground section of Corridor II to the elevated stretch. As per the DPR, the elevated stretch from Malahi Pakri to Patliputra Bus Terminal or ISBT is about 6.6 km.

DMRC is yet to share the bid details with Patna Metro Rail Corporation officials.

Meanwhile, a Bengaluru-based company has started construction of a 6.1 km elevated stretch of Corridor II from Malhi Pakri to ISBT. It consists of five stations – Malahi Pakri, Khemnichak, Bhootnath, Zero Mile and ISBT. This section is also known as Priority Corridor.
