Rare idol found in Nalanda village

As the news spread, residents of Kosuk village took it away and installed the idol at their village temple after due rituals. BIHARSHARIF: Officials of the Nalanda district administration took possession of a rare black stone idol from a village temple three days after its residents had installed it there with due rituals.The idol of deity Mahamaya was found buried deep in the sands of the Panchane river near Kosuk village under Deepnagar police station on March 20 by the workers of a construction company. He said the proper identity and the age of the idol would be known after the inscribed manuscript on the idol is decoded. An official said the estimated price of the idol would be in crores in the international market. Soon, hundreds of residents from neighbouring villages started pouring in to offer prayers.As the experts and officials from Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) found it to be very rare and valuable piece of history, they procured it from the temple to be kept at Nalanda Museum.An ASI official, Atul Kumar Verma, said the idol was probably of 11th century AD.
