Civil Lines police station SHO Hari Ojha said while Rajan Kumar eloped, his mother Kiran Devi and other members had fled from the town. Kiran Devi confirmed the elopement and said she was helpless in the matter. QUOTEHoping that things would change after marriage, we had organised tilak ceremony in presence of relatives and friends. Stunned by the incident, the bride’s parents rushed to the house of the boy, Rajan Kumar, in Gewalbigha locality here, only to find his mother Kiran Devi there. More shockingly, the boy had taken away Rs 3 lakh he was given in dowry at the tilak, a pre-marriage ceremony, performed on April 14.

Gaya The bride’s house in Gaya district, 100km south of Patna, was tastefully decorated on Wednesday and pre-wedding rituals were on. Her family members had made elaborate arrangements to welcome the baraat (marriage party) later in the day, realising little that the celebratory mood would soon give way to gloom.

Early morning, they were informed that the bridegroom had eloped on the wedding eve with the girl with whom he had been in relationship. More shockingly, the boy had taken away Rs 3 lakh he was given in dowry at the tilak, a pre-marriage ceremony, performed on April 14.

Stunned by the incident, the bride’s parents rushed to the house of the boy, Rajan Kumar, in Gewalbigha locality here, only to find his mother Kiran Devi there. Kiran Devi confirmed the elopement and said she was helpless in the matter. The boy’s mother also admitted that she was aware of her son’s love affair. “Hoping that things would change after the marriage, we had organised the tilak ceremony with pomp and show in the presence of relatives and friends. My son had also participated in the ceremony without giving any impression of his impending move,” she said.

Unable to find any help from Rajan Kumar’s family, the girl’s parents then approached the Civil Lines police station here and lodged a formal complaint against him and his family. After registering the FIR, police have now swung into action to arrest Raj Kumar and his family members.

Civil Lines police station SHO Hari Ojha said while Rajan Kumar eloped, his mother Kiran Devi and other members had fled from the town. Raids were on to arrest them, he added.
