Police said a group of people, who had gone to a sub-station to lodge a complaint of power tripping, found the employees of Essel Vidyut Vitaran Pvt Ltd, consuming liquor while partying at the Miscot power sub-station (PSS) in Muzaffarpur on Wednesday.

    Six employees — an area manager and five junior engineers (JEs) — of a private power distribution company were sacked for consuming liquor on office premises in Muzaffarpur district, 71 km north of Patna. Police said a group of people, who had gone to a sub-station to lodge a complaint of power tripping, found the employees of Essel Vidyut Vitaran Pvt Ltd, consuming liquor while partying at the Miscot power sub-station (PSS) in Muzaffarpur on Wednesday. The residents immediately informed the police, which reached there and arrested four junior engineers. Two others, the company’s area manager, Diwakar, and another JE, escaped after giving police the slip. Ajay Pandey, an employee of Ashutosh Enterprises, a sub-contractor hired by the Essel Vidyut Vitaran Pvt Ltd to lay cables in the town, had arranged the party, the police said.

    He was also absconding. Bihar went in for total prohibition on April 5, 2016. The Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2016, which came into force on October 2 last year, provides for arrest of all adults in case of recovery of liquor bottle from a premises and collective fine in case of habitual violation of prohibition. READ: Booze laws don’t matter, university students party Essel Vidyut Vitaran Pvt Ltd public relation officer (PRO) Rajesh Kumar Chaudhury said the company had taken a strong note of the incident and promptly sacked all the six erring employees. “We have taken immediate action against them and are taking steps to ensure that such incidents do not recur,” he said. The company had also terminated the services of Ashutosh Enterprises. The JEs arrested were identified as Anis Ahmad, Mohammad Iqubal, Deepak Shukla and Santosh Kumar.
