Students pledge to save earth, birds

PATNA: The Environmental Science department of A N College-Patna organised several activities to mark the World Earth Day on Saturday.Students enacted a drama on the theme of the celebrations, 'Save birds, save earth'. They also pledged to save birds and placed water containers around the college premises for birds as a symbolic gesture.A seminar was also held, at which speakers expressed their views concerning environmental issues. Some students dressed as tress planted saplings in the school ground.St Xavier's school PTA: The Parents-Teachers' Association of St Xavier's High School-Patna held its annual general meeting at the school on Saturday.Over 1,000 students and their parents attended the meeting which started with prayer song by school choir. College principal S P Shahi spoke about the climate change and global warming that have led to higher temperature, dwindling water resources and extinction of birds, including sparrows.Department head Preety Sinha and other faculty members also attended the programme.Meanwhile, students of Indirapuram Public School sang 'Prithvi Gayatri Mantra' at a function organised on their campus on the occasion of World Earth Day on Saturday.A herbal garden was also opened in the school on the occasion. Later, Fr Jose Elampassery read out the school's annual report.Addressing the parents and students, principal Fr Jacob Olickathotty said, appealed to the well-off parents to sponsor the underprivileged students who are studying in formal and informal schools being run by the Patna Jesuit Society across the state.PTA president Amitabh, Rita Edward, Nutan and other schoolteachers were also present.NIIFT admissions: The Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT)-Mohali has announced the admission schedule for its Fashion and Textile Designing course.NIIFT director Inderjit Singh said at a press conference in Patna on Saturday that the online admission would be open till May 25.
