SAHARSA: Amidst all the brouhaha over triple talaq at the national level, Biwi Mariam, a woman from this small town and victim of the controversial Muslim divorce system, has threatened to take extreme measure like religious conversion if justice was denied to her.Mariam, mother of two minor children and resident of Niyaamat Tola in the town, who was allegedly tortured by her husband, Md Munawwar of Madhepura, has also lodged a case with the woman police station.Mariam was divorced by her husband allegedly because her mother, who is a widow, could not afford the huge amount of dowry demanded by him and his family members. She lodged an FIR with the women police station on April 18 and also wrote a letter to the Saharsa SP, demanding justice and social dignity.The woman said she will think of religious conversion after her possible meeting with Union home minister Rajnath Singh, who is scheduled to visit Saharsa on April 25.
