Short film highlights Orwell’s life and works

In his fresh documentary, Mukherjee has compared the philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi with Orwell. MOTIHARI: George Orwell Commemorative Committee on Sunday organised a function to mark uploading of a documentary film, titled 'George Orwell - In the land of Satyagrah', on YouTube.Eric Arthur, commonly known as George Orwell, was born in Motihari on June 25, 1903, where his father Richard Arthur Blair was in-charge of opium godown during the British rule. He died on January 21, 1950 in London.At a function organized at the birthplace of the English author in Gyanpul Chowk locality of Motihari, the committee shared the short film with all the participants.The director and writer of the short film, Vishwajeet Mukherjee, shot in limelight through his another documentary on the British writer, 'George Orwell - But Why'. He said Motihari, the 'karmabhumi' of Mahatma Gandhi, also takes pride in being the birthplace of Orwell.Deopriye Mukherjee, chairman of George Orwell Commemorative Committee and a senior member of Rotary Lake Town Motihari, said for the last 14 years, Rotary is working for preservation of Orwell's birthplace. Orwell's relation with Gandhi and similarities in their ideologies have been highlighted in the short film, which has been prepared keeping in mind the ongoing Champaran satyagrah centenary.Speaking on the occasion, additional superintendent of police (operation) Himanshu Shekher Gaurav, Motihari Nagar Parishad chairman Anju Devi and vice-chairman Ravibushan Shrivastva pledged to maintain the sanctum sanctorum of the birthplace of Orwell.ASP Gaurav said the 30-minute documentary is enough to highlight Orwell's views on anti-imperialism and his lifestyle.
