CM takes up surprise inspection at Secretariat

Narayanasamy on Monday morning conducted a surprise inspection at the Chief Secretariat and expressed his displeasure over employees not coming on time for duty. The Chief Minister said he would take up the complacency of secretariat staff with the Chief Secretary and other officials. While the escort vehicle took the usual right from the Assembly gate, the Chief Minister directed his driver to go to the Chief Secretariat. The Chif Minister found found that the biometric machine kept at the Chief Secretariat was not functioning for the last several days.

He told presspersons after the inspection that the government had been fair enough in addressing the concerns of the employees even while facing financial difficulties. Habitual latecomers He said during inspection he found a majority of the employees not coming to office on time. “In the Union Territory, the reporting time for government staff is 8.45 a.m. But I have received several complaints about employees not coming on time. Today, the inspection proved that the employees don’t even come by 10 a.m.,” Mr. Narayanasamy said. Several proposals and projects were stuck due to delay in clearance by officials, he added. The Chief Minister said he would take up the complacency of secretariat staff with the Chief Secretary and other officials. The Chif Minister found found that the biometric machine kept at the Chief Secretariat was not functioning for the last several days. “The biometric attendance machine too was not functioning. It has been under repair for a long time. It is a serious issue,” he said. It was around at 8.30 a.m that the media was asked to be present at the Assembly for an inspection to be conducted by the Chief Minister. After the media contingent assembled at around 9. 30 a.m, the Chief Minister got into his official vehicle and asked journalists to accompany him. Kept under wraps Even the Chief Minister’s escort personnel were not kept in the loop about his personal visit. While the escort vehicle took the usual right from the Assembly gate, the Chief Minister directed his driver to go to the Chief Secretariat. What awaited the Chief Minister at the Secretariat were empty chairs in almost all the departments. Even heads of departments were not present during the inspection time. He also verified the attendance register. Mr. Narayanasamy had an interaction with the employees who were present and sought their cooperation in implementing government schemes.
