Book fair begins today

The book fair focusses on dissemination of knowledge as it is a key area for NLCIL’s CSR activities. The stage is set for the 21st Neyveli Book Fair (June 29-July 8) beginning Friday under the auspices of the NLC India Ltd (NLCIL). NLCIL began the annual book fair in Neyveli in 1998. Over the course of 10 days, the fair will showcase digital and paper books, magazines, CDs, and other resources targeting school children and book lovers. During the days of the fair, eminent writers, publishers will be honoured and new books will be released.

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit is scheduled to open the ten-day event in the presence of Sarat Kumar Acharya, CMD, NLCIL and a host of officials and other dignitaries, NLCIL said. NLCIL began the annual book fair in Neyveli in 1998. The event has since enjoyed resounding success bringing together over 150 publishers and over 10,000 titles under one roof. The book fair focusses on dissemination of knowledge as it is a key area for NLCIL’s CSR activities. As there has been an ever-growing demand from book lovers from neighbouring districts, it is proposed to keep open the book stalls from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and weekends. During the days of the fair, eminent writers, publishers will be honoured and new books will be released. Over the course of 10 days, the fair will showcase digital and paper books, magazines, CDs, and other resources targeting school children and book lovers. As a CSR initiative, NLC has also made special arrangements for schools, especially government schools and underprivileged children to visit the fair by issuing free entry passes, cool drinks, water bottles and biscuit packets to more than 15,000 school students hailing from Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore districts and Puducherry. Apart from literary discussions, various cultural programmes including dance, light music, plays and magic shows have also been scheduled. On-the-spot contests for children, students and the public are an additional attraction. The Book Fair Organising Committee is also hosting short story competition for Tamil writers and essay contests for school and college students besides a short film competition for visual communication students and public.
