Narayanasamy on Monday assured the Assembly that he would take a delegation of legislators and representatives of political parties to New Delhi to call on the Central Government and national leaders . He said the proceedings of the House would be completed by July 19 following which a delegation would be taken to Delhi on July 20. The Chief Minister made the sudden announcement after members including, Social Welfare Minister M Kandasamy, expressed their unhappiness with the present state of affairs. Intervening during the discussion , AIADMK leader A. Anbalgan said senior officials, including the District Collector, did not understand Tamil and added that the government did not have the power to appoint officers for key posts. DMK member R. Siva said the public were also unable to interact with officials due to these language barriers. He added all legislators were ready to visit Delhi to protect the elected government’s rights. Scrapping of UGC AINCRC member N.S.J. Jayabal extended support to any step taken to get more powers for an elected government. The Chief Minister said since all legislators expressed their wish, a delegation would be taken to the national capital. During Zero Hour, Mr. Narayanasamy informed his government’s decision to oppose the Centre’s move to abolish the University Grants Commission. The government would give its objection in writing to the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, he said.
