Deal with power thieves with firm hand: Siva

DMK legislator R. Siva has demanded that the government take firm action against power theft offenders in Yanam. The liquor shops should be auctioned online so that the burden of expenditure would come down. Participating in the debate on the demand for grants for various departments in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, Mr. Siva said there were several instances of power theft in Yanam. Mr. Anantharaman said the liquor shops run by PAPSCO should be leased out to the private sector as was being done in respect of arrack and toddy shops. He wanted IT to be made more popular so that the youth of Puducherry reaped the maximum benefit.

But the government was collecting only a paltry sum and settled the case, he said. Although the government unveiled an Information Technology policy no entrepreneur had responded so far. He wanted IT to be made more popular so that the youth of Puducherry reaped the maximum benefit. Mr. Siva also expressed concern over the uncontrolled sale of ganja which victimised the youth. If any police officers was found lax in controlling the menace he should be suspended. He also demanded that the government install Closed Circuit Television Cameras in the new bus stand. Participating in the debate, government whip R.K.R. Anantharaman demanded the government to evolve measures to relieve the Public Sector Undertakings of the issues they were facing. Every year the government was incurring lot of expenditure in the form of grant-in aid to the PSUs. Mr. Anantharaman said the liquor shops run by PAPSCO should be leased out to the private sector as was being done in respect of arrack and toddy shops. The liquor shops should be auctioned online so that the burden of expenditure would come down. He also suggested that the cess collected by the Puducherry Planning Authority (PPA) from the applicants for building approval can be used for supply of food packets to the workers employed in the construction industry.
