more-in An action plan to ramp up dengue preparedness ahead of the north-east monsoon was chalked out at a meeting convened by Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi on Monday. A multi-disciplinary team of officials, who participated in the meeting at the Raj Nivas, was tasked with carrying out source reduction in the areas of Primary Health Centres to keep the mosquito-borne disease in check. The drive would be undertaken with the involvement of SHGs, DRDA/MNREGA workers, non-governmental organisations with the health inspectors, health assistants and field workers of the respective PHCs in coordination with the municipality and commune panchayats in the identified dengue hotspots. The officials will conduct awareness campaigns at the community level involving NSS, NCC volunteers and students from paramedical institutions. De-weeding or removal of debris in irrigation canals would be the responsibility of the Public Works Department. Besides, an advisory would be communicated to the government institutions, police stations, Agriculture Department, government guest houses, warehouses, railways, airports and harbour to control mosquitoes. A system of daily reporting from super speciality hospitals and other health institutions on dengue cases would be put in place. Fogging and larvacidal spraying at reported dengue foci are proposed.
