Govt employees to get HRA as per 7th pay commission

The government had two years ago implemented the 7th Pay Commission recommendations without making effect the HRA component of the new pay scale. Around 23,000 government employees will get an enhanced House Rent Allowance (HRA) from this month as the territorial administration has decided to implement HRA as per the 7th Pay Commission Recommendations. The implementation of the new HRA pay package as per 7th commission recommendation would cost the government ?5 to ?6 crore per month. Announcing the decision at a press conference here on Tuesday, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said the allowance of the employees will increase by at least 2.5 times. “Though the government is facing a severe financial crisis, we will not shy away from addressing the demands of its employees,” he said.

For example, if a Group A category employee was drawing a monthly rental allowance of ?4600, it will go any where between ?9000 to ?12,000. Mr. Narayanasamy said he had requested the Centre to compensate for the salary hike as per the new pay scale implemented by his administration two years ago. In the last two years, the government had incurred an additional expenditure of ?1100 crore. However, the Centre was yet to respond to the request. Farming subsidies Mr. Narayanasamy, who addressed the press after taking a short visit to Karaikal region, said most of the rivers and lakes have received adequate inflow of Cauvery water. Around 5000 hectares of Samba crop can be raised. The Agriculture Department and Pondicherry Agro Service and Industries Corporation had stored around 100 tonnes of paddy seeds and 150 tonnes of fertilizer for raising Samba crop. The government would provide a subsidy of ?10 per kg for the paddy seeds to farmers. On the death of head constable Devanand at Palghat in Kerala, he said the post-mortem report would only ascertain the death of policeman. The deceased had gone to his native place in Mahe. When police enquired in Mahe about his absence from duty, the family informed that he had gone to Palghat Railway Station to board the train back to Puducherry. Later, the police received information that he had died in the floods at Palghat, he said.
