AIADMK seeks special session for admission law

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has urged the government to immediately convene a special session of the Assembly to pass a law making it mandatory for private medical colleges to part with 50% seats. While Tamil Nadu was getting 65% seats under the government quota, the other States were getting 50% seats. AIADMK floor leader in the Assembly A. Anbalagan, told presspersons here on Friday that the issue of private medical colleges not providing seats to government quota was raised in the Budget session of the Assembly.

Criticising the government for not convening a special session, Mr. Anbalagan said private medical institutions had been having a free run in the admission process in the last 10 years. While Tamil Nadu was getting 65% seats under the government quota, the other States were getting 50% seats. However, the Union Territory was not even getting 30% seats in medical institutions, he said. Protest planned There had been rampant irregularities in the admission process, he said and added that the party would organise a protest against the government for colluding with the private management. The government had lost seats in deemed universities, the AIADMK leader said. The party criticised the government for not disbursing salary to anganwadi workers. A sum of ?38 crore had been earmarked to provide salary to workers, he added.
