Ramasamy at Pillaithottam that he was yet to get any response on increasing the age limit from 22 to 24 as proposed by the government from the Lieutenant Governor. The Chief Minister said the minimum age limit for recruitment had been increased to 24 after the government received representations from aspiring candidates. He said several political parties had demanded increasing the age limit to 24 as had been done in the earlier recruitments. “The file for approval was sent to the Lieutenant Governor for her approval but the government is yet to get it cleared. I will refer the issue to the Ministry of Home Affairs for its consideration,” the Chief Minister said. His response came after the Lt. Governor gave an indication that she was not in favour of changing the age limit. In a message, Ms. Bedi had said that the age limit had been fixed as per the recommendations of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. L-G’s stand “We have gone by the recommendations of high-powered police reforms committee set up under the directions of the Prime Minister. The committee has held consultations with all stakeholders. The present policy is on the recommendations which were approved by the MHA. Hence, any relaxation will violate this policy. We have not ‘unsettled’ this ‘settled’ policy,” she said in a WhatsApp message to reporters.
