Yoga programme for medicos launched

The initiative is being co-ordinated by the Centre for Yoga Therapy, Education & Research (CYTER), a unit of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth. Award for centreThe Centre for Yoga Therapy, Education & Research, a unit of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, has been selected to receive ‘InSPA Educational Excellence Award 2018’ instituted by the Indian School Psychology Association. It is also proposed to extend the programme to the students of the other constituent colleges of SBV , a press note from MGMCRI said.

The programme was themed ‘Yogabhyasa — a step towards salutogenesis’. Subhash Chandra Parija, Vice-Chancellor of SBV, while inaugurating the unique endeavour emphasised the need for the holistic well being of students in general. He laid stress on the theme salutogenesis, originally coined by the Austrian sociologist Aaron Antonovsky to describe the focus on well-being and health instead of disease. Prof. Parija also felt that this initiative would go a long way in stress management among students besides enhancing the well-being of the mind and body and improving the learning skills among the student community.This facility is provided to the undergraduate students of medicine of this university beyond the curricular hours daily that will earn certain number of credits to the students which will reflect in their course-cum-conduct certificate at the end of their studies.
