Raj Kumar, son of head constable Dharman, sat in protest near the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Puducherry on Friday. | Photo Credit: M_SAMRAJ more-in Raj Kumar, son of head constable Dharman, who died in the bomb blast that killed former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in Sriperumpudur, staged a protest near the Gandhi Statue on the Beach Road requesting the Tamil Nadu Governor not to release seven convicts in the assassination case. Mr. Kumar, 31, a hotel employee, was picked up by the Grand Bazaar Police immediately after he staged the protest around 6 a.m. He was later released. Mr. Kumar told reporters that his father was attached to the Teynampet Police Station when he died in the blast while on duty. “I lost my father at the age of eight. My mother was not educated. It took around eight years for her to get a job on compassionate grounds,” he said. ‘Tough time’ Recalling his younger days, Mr. Kumar said the family had a tough time making both ends meet after his father’s death. There was no need to release the convicts responsible for the death of innocent people, he said. Mr. Kumar said that he would try to meet the Tamil Nadu Governor to persuade him not to release the convicts.
