PMK leader lays stress on setting up Supreme Court Benches in States

PMK founder and Chairman of Vanniyar Educational Trust S. Ramadoss stressed the need for establishment of benches of the Supreme Court in different states for expeditious disposal of cases in the Supreme Court. As many as 99 % of the cases, which are of no national significance, have been taken to the Supreme Court on appeal. He contended that the students of this college would shine globally and said that the Law College should emerge as a Centre of Excellence. N. Paul Vasanthakumar, former Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. Inaugurating the Saraswathy Law College of Vanniyar Educational Trust at Konerikuppam near Tindivanam here on Friday, he said that the recent Supreme Court judgment awarding a compensation of ?50,000 to Dr. Nambi Narayanan, former Scientist of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), was an eye-opener to those subjected to humiliation due to foisting of false and frivolous cases. “Dr. Narayanan was a scientist in ISRO, who unfortunately had to face a criminal case framed against him. He was put to great humiliation and lived with irreparable shame for about 25 years,” he said. He also urged the young law students to imbibe qualities of respect for truth, courage, goodwill, compassion and honesty, cultivate the habit of reading law journals and come out with flying colours to become eminent lawyers, legal luminaries and famous judges. Rich tributes Mr. Ramadoss paid rich tributes to Karnataka for being a pace-setter for social justice in the country. The Karnataka government first created the Havanur Commission. Then it was followed by the Sattanathan Commission and the Ambasankar Commission in Tamil Nadu. He said that students pursuing legal studies in this college should not indulge in unseemly activities lest they face expulsion. He contended that the students of this college would shine globally and said that the Law College should emerge as a Centre of Excellence.
