Members of the faculty drawn from leading universities, institutions and publishing houses provided an insight into the publishing industry to the participants through interactive sessions. Besides strengthening knowledge in different aspects of publishing, the course also helps participants to take up publishing as a career and will also create more skilled manpower for publishing industry, he said. Industry needsThe course is designed suitably, keeping in view the needs of the industry in the Indian context. Those aspiring to enter the world of publishing can explore many skills right from writing, editing and publishing.

New skills Inaugurating the event, Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi said publishing was connecting with the world with one’s ideas. Participants can acquire new skills in this week-long programme, she said. Those aspiring to enter the world of publishing can explore many skills right from writing, editing and publishing. In the age of digital revolutions carrying out electronic publication has also become a very easy task, provided one acquires the skills of writing and editing, Ms. Bedi said. Publication should have the qualities of readability, should be easy to grasp, paper should be environmental friendly and of good quality and expression should be concise. She even advised aspirants to follow the twitter online and start tweeting through which they can learn how to say concisely and edit. The online platform allows one to create blogs to express themselves, put out posts on facebook which can be later published in a formal form, Ms. Bedi said. The Lt. Governor also released Telugu media special issue of Media Vimarsh Journal edited by Dr. C. Jaya Sankar Babu, Head, Department of Hindi. Vice-chancellor Prof. Gurmeet Singh in his presidential address, said it was a unique opportunity for the participants to acquire new skills in the publishing world. They get all-round knowledge of publishing and can expect to get their writings published in professional way. There is also scope to become an entrepreneur, and start a publishing house. Jaya Sankar Babu outlined the salient aspects of the training course in book publishing and said that it aimed to give the participants an overview of publishing, including hands-on experience and interactive sessions. Narender Kumar, Training Officer, NBT-India, New Delhi, read out the message from the Chairman of NBT Prof. Baldeo Bhai Sharma. Prabhat Kumar, Member of NBT Trust Board, highlighted the book culture of India, and S.Padmapriya participated. Participants from various parts of the country are attending the course. Participants in the national level training programme include 14 from Puducherry, seven from Kerala, 13 from Tamil Nadu, three each from from Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, two each from Odisha and Rajasthan and one each from Assam, Telangana and Jharkhand. The training course focuses on various aspects of publishing such as developing manuscripts, editorial process, production and marketing of books, export of books, copyright and other legal issues of publishing and sale of rights. Members of the faculty drawn from leading universities, institutions and publishing houses provided an insight into the publishing industry to the participants through interactive sessions. The experts included Arun Bhagat Suresh Chand, A.K. Sinha, Kalyan Benerjee, Prabhat Kumar, Lipika Bhushan, Madurai Sridhar, Prof. Raja and C. Vasudevan.
