Body slams govt over pay revision

In a statement here, association leader Balamohanan Charoth said the government had arbitrarily announced the date of revised pay structure when the revision was due from January 1, 2016. He flayed the government for putting the onus on meeting the additional expenditure involved in implementing the pay structure to local bodies. Governor to reconsider the decision to make revised pay scale effective from this year. The Confederation of Government Employees Association has expressed disappointment over the government’s decision to make effective the revised pay structure for employees of local bodies from October 2 this year. The government cannot change the implementation dates prospectively when the new pay scales were as per the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations.

He flayed the government for putting the onus on meeting the additional expenditure involved in implementing the pay structure to local bodies. Mr. Balamohanan said the government wanted local bodies to bear the expenditure but was not allowing them to raise the tax structure. The tax structure was considerably low when compared to the neighbouring districts. He urged the government and the Lt. Governor to reconsider the decision to make revised pay scale effective from this year.
