Clean slate: According to Centac, candidates featured on the eligibility list available on the official website can participate in the current session. more-in The Centralised Admission Committee (Centac) will hold a special counselling on Monday for the 33 MBBS seats under the management quota in the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in compliance with the October 9 order of the Supreme Court. An apex court Bench, while disposing an appeal through a Special Leave petition by the Medical Council of India (MCI) against an order by the Madras High Court (MHC), annulled all irregular MBBS admissions at PIMS and directed that students be admitted afresh based on merit. The MCI appealed against the MHC order setting aside its directive regarding renewal of 50 additional seats, opening the door for PIMS to fill up these seats (33 under management quota and 17 under the Government quota). However, PIMS filled up the entire quota overlooking Centac-sponsored candidates, resulting in MCI appeal to the apex court. However, the October 9 ruling forced the recommencing of the admission process. According to Centac, candidates included in the list of 330 are eligible. The list was published on the Centac website on August 31. The counselling will be held at the Centac Office, PEC Campus, Pillaichavady, from 1 p.m. Candidates who pay the first year tuition fee of ?16 lakh will be allotted seats. Candidates shall bring their NEET score card and original certificates or bona fide certificate. Once a seat is allotted, the amount will not be returned under any circumstance. If the candidates fail to join after allotment, the amount will be forfeited, Centac said. The amount should be brought as DD in favour of the Coordinator, Centac. The bank counter will be functional. Candidates are requested to come prepared, in case seat is allotted, Centac said.
