Renowned Tamil Writer Ki Rajanarayan((98) passes away in Puducherry

Renowned Tamil writer, novelist and Sahitya Akademi Awardee K.K. Rajnarayanan passed away. Rajnarayanan was 98 years old. He was popularly known as `KiRa`.

Renowned Tamil writer, novelist and Sahitya Akademi Awardee K.K. Rajnarayanan passed away. Rajnarayanan was 98 years old. He was popularly known as `KiRa`.

Rajnarayanan had been battling an age-related illness for some time, he was on bed rest for the past few months and died at the age of 98, on Monday night at his home. Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan paid tributes to the writer on Tuesday.

Rajnarayanan was born in 1923 in Idaiseval village near Kovilpatti in the Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu.

Rajnarayanan was a professor in the Department of Public Literature at Pondicherry University in the 1980s. He received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1991 for his novel `Gopalapuratu Makkal`. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also mourned the death of the writer and said that Rajnarayanan`s last rites would be performed with full state honours.

The Lieutenant Governor told reporters that Tamil writers have demanded that the house where Rajnarayanan lived should be converted into a memory library; he said this request will be considered.

Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy has mourned the author`s demise. In his condolence message, the Chief Minister said that the world of literature has lost a big thinker and writer with the death of Ra.
