Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc in the country; meanwhile, Puducherry received 1,759 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24-hours ending at 10 am on Wednesday, while 29 people succumbed to the virus in the Union Territory.

Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc in the country; meanwhile, Puducherry received 1,759 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24-hours ending at 10 am on Wednesday, while 29 people succumbed to the virus in the Union Territory.

The active cases tally has mounted to 17,652 while total cases stand at 89,508.

The cumulative death toll has reached 1,241 after 29 persons died of the disease in the last 24-hours. The age groups of the deceased ranged between 27 and 75 years. Six of the deceased had no co-morbidities while the remaining 14 patients had complaints such as diabetes or hypertension.

The Puducherry headquarters received the highest 1237 new Covid-19 cases, followed by Karaikal (193), Yanam (104) and Mahe (21).

Director of the Health and Family Welfare department, S Mohan Kumar said the new cases were identified after testing 9,007 samples and the UT recorded a test positivity rate (TPR) of 19.5%.

The Director said that 70,615 patients have recovered from Covid-19 so far. The recovery rate here is 78.89%, while the death rate stood at 1.39%.
