Puducherry logs 867 new cases, less than 1k new cases for the fifth straight day

This is the fifth consecutive day when the Union Territory has received less than one thousand new cases.

Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc in the country; meanwhile, Puducherry received 867 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24-hours ending at 10 am on Wednesday, while 17 people succumbed to the virus in the Union Territory.

Fresh cases on Monday pushed the UTs total cases tally past the 1.6 lakh mark to 1,06,299.

The cumulative death toll has reached 1,567 after 17 persons died of the disease in the last 24-hours.

The active cases tally has mounted to 10,166.

The Puducherry headquarters received the highest 605 new Covid-19 cases, followed by Karaikal (189), Yanam (44) and Mahe (29).

Director of the Health and Family Welfare department, S Mohan Kumar said that 34,799 vaccine doses have been given to health workers and 21,915 frontline workers. At the same time, 1,62,101 people in the age group 18+ years have been given doses of Covid-19 vaccines.

The official said that 1,393 patients have also recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, pushing the total recoveries to 91,770.

The Health Department tested 9,151 lakh samples in the last 24-hours, UT recorded a test positivity rate (TPR) of 8.47%.

The Director said that the recovery rate here is 88.96%, while the death rate stood at 1.47%.
